What are we looking for?
The candidate in this role is expected to interact with scientists from across Avon R&D, Manufacturing and supply chain organizations, providing Analytical expertise supporting all categories of beauty product development. The product work will be in various stages of development, from early-stage development to those being validated prior to launch in market. The role includes both independent work on projects of moderate complexity and collaborative work on projects of high complexity.
What are the main responsibilities:
Use a broad range of Analytical techniques, including gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry to drive Avon’s R&D pipeline by independently planning and executing projects to address business needs. Apply creative thinking and problem-solving skills to develop solutions to assigned projects. Works in a bold and curious way with upstream research partners to develop experiments to show efficacy of technologies in development. Develop new methods with a focus on maximizing speed, sensitivity, and robustness to meet business and/or quality control needs. Strong data analysis and communication skills required.
Leverage a broad range of Analytical techniques, including GC, HPLC, IR, UV/VIS, DSC, and wet chemistry techniques to support Avon’s research and development pipeline by independently planning and executing analytical work to address business needs.
Run established methods with a focus on accuracy and timely results to meet business, stability validation and/or quality control needs.
Apply creative thinking and problem-solving skills to develop solutions to assigned projects.
Work closely with product development partners to develop experiments to show efficacy and or validate technologies in development.
Independently generate and interpret data, including statistical analysis as required, to support products in development.
Provide guidance and measurement science support to internal R&D partners to include Toxicology and Regulatory as needed.
Document and report results accurately, clearly, and concisely to associates of various levels across R&D in oral and written form
Who is the person?
Interacts with scientists from across the worldwide Avon R&D and QA organizations. Stays connected to external analytical experts to consult as needed for complex problem solving
Hands on chromatography experience (GC and HPLC), including method development and instrument troubleshooting.
In depth knowledge of IR, UV/VIS, DSC and analytical wet chemistry techniques.
Ability to perform statistical analysis is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, project management skills, and database searching proficiency, must be able to work well in a matrixed environment.
Self-starter able to learn quickly, work independently, and has a desire to continually expand analytical knowledge.
Strong data analysis and knowledge of GLP requirements.
Highly flexible and adaptive to changing business priorities, while completing projects in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills.
What you need to have?
Experience with mass spectrometry (MS) is a plus.
5-7 years Analytical Chemistry experience in a cosmetics, pharma or CPG industry and MS or BS degree in (preferably Analytical) Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline.
